0005 Call it layer, and take the numbers out of the provenance grade

Replaces items 6 and 7 of 0001

What

• The organizational tiers are called “layer 0, layer 1, layer 2” instead of “0층, 1층, 2층”. Always the lowercase word layer and a number. Never shortened to “층”, “Layer” or “L1”.

• The provenance grade (how far a record is from the original) is named with words instead of “L0 to L3”.

• “The authentic layer” (진본층) and “the interpretive layer” (해석층) stay as they are. Even though the Korean words end in 층 (“layer”), they are not layers in this sense. They divide the original from interpretations inside a record (terms from the common rules).

• A new terms document, 05-Glossary, is created. It gathers the places where different projects call the same thing by different names, or use the same word with different meanings.

• The file name 04-층.md stays as it is, because secretary issues and arkive documents point to it by that name. Only the title becomes “04 layer”.

Documents updated: working rules, 04-layer (v0.3), 03-manifest (v0.3), 05-Glossary (new).

Why

• Decision of the head of Nodeone (2026-10-12, passed on by the common rules session and confirmed again in this session): “Use layer, and find other terms for the provenance grades L0 to L3.”
• Nodeone’s common rules already write “layer 0, 1, 2”. If only hgp said “0층”, the same thing would have two names.
• “layer 1” and “L1” look almost the same. If both stay numbers, every sentence makes you work out whether “L1” means the store or a draft. There are only four provenance grades and words for them already exist (original, draft, confirmed, derived), so numbers are not needed.
• windandflow also uses “L0 to L4” (membership levels) and “L3, L4” (technology bundles). L plus a number means different things in different places.

Other options

Where it has effect

• secretary: there is no level field yet. When it is added, use word values (item 3 of issue #67). If documents use notation such as “L1”, change it.
• arkive: when level is added to transcription records, use word values (arkive to-do).
• Common rules: the terms line in Nodeone’s common rules should point to 05-Glossary.
